In addition to traditional instruction, the students of Henry A. Coffeen are encouraged to be leaders. This leadership is evidenced by the philanthropic efforts that the students carry out in their lives. The following are examples of their efforts.
Welch Cancer Center
The 5th grade class of Henry A. Coffeen Elementary School is once again working to raise money for the Welch Cancer Center. All donations will go towards purchasing comforting materials like games, blankets, and books to help people pass the time during chemotherapy. Last year’s 5th grade class raised $350 and presented it to the hospital foundation. This year, the 5th graders have received a little extra help from one of their fellow Cougars. Eliana Grover, a kindergartener in Ms. Ligget's class spent most of last weekend, in her front yard, selling her own handwritten books. Ms. Liggett commented, “It is so great to see students doing such great things and believing in their work!!” Eliana raised over $40 and donated it all to her classroom’s cancer fundraiser bucket.
SHS Locker Room Project
The students at Henry A. Coffeen raised enough money to support the locker room project at the high school. They will be purchasing one locker, which will be engraved with Coffeen's school name. In addition, the PTO is buying a locker in memory of Connie Schmidt, a former 3rd grade teacher at Henry A. Coffeen. The future Broncs and Lady Broncs of Henry A. Coffeen Elementary School are excited about this opportunity!
