About Henry A. Coffeen

Being a school that prides ourselves on leadership, we find it only fitting that we are named after one of Sheridan County’s most influential citizens. Henry A. Coffeen was a college professor, a superintendent of schools in Illinois, a strong advocate of child labor laws, a business owner, land developer and a community organizer. His leadership qualities led him to establish the first Sheridan College and to serve as a mayor of Sheridan. He also served as a representative to Wyoming’s State Legislature from 1893-1895.
