Re: PSAT/NMSQT Testing
I am writing to encourage you to have your child take the PSAT on Wednesday, October 19th, 2016. This test is free for juniors.
I believe this exam is important for your student in two ways:
- This practice exam will better prepare students for the ACT and SAT exams. ACT and SAT scores are reported to colleges during the admissions process. As a junior, your child will be required to take the ACT here at SHS next spring.
- An excellent score on this exam qualifies students for the National Merit Scholarship program.
Please have your student sign up by Friday, September 16th at 3:45 p.m. in the Student Planning Office, Room B108, to take the PSAT. Students must pre-register for the PSAT by September 16th as the exams must be ordered by that date. No late registrations will be possible. In addition, if your student signs up for the PSAT and fail to sit for the exam, the district will add the $15 test fee to your student’s account. If you have any questions concerning the PSAT, please call the Student Planning Office at 672-2495, ext. 2108.
For Your Information
National Merit Scholars are those in the top 2% of test takers in the United States. Several SHS students qualify as National Merit Scholars each year, greatly increasing their opportunities for selective college admission and scholarships. National Merit Finalists are offered full scholarships at several major state universities and dedicated scholarships at many more.
A comprehensive list of scholarships, test dates and other post high school planning events is published every two weeks by the Student Planning Office. To subscribe via email, please send a request to firstname.lastname@example.org.
